CANDLES
and
MORE...
December 20, 2019
At long last, I added candles and wax melts to my product line in 2019. I had actually been studying up on candle making for a few years. You might wonder why it took me so long to launch my candle and melt line. On the surface, it doesn’t seem like it would be that hard. After all, you can find all kinds of candles in nearly every conceivable shape and scent you can imagine. Candles are literally EVERYWHERE! Therein is the crux of the problem. While it is simple enough to run to Hobby Lobby or Michael’s, buy some wax, containers, wicks, fragrance and colorants, that is where simple ends. Alternatively, many folks try to melt down that last bit of wax in their Yankee Candles and BBW candles and stick a new wick in the jar and call it good (I confess; I tried it). Anyone who has resorted to these methods were most likely less than thrilled with the results.
After intensive research, I learned that there are many different types of wax (all with different properties) and that proper wicking is an all-important aspect to making a good candle. In addition, each type of wax requires differing amounts of fragrance oil and that some fragrances (notably some fragrance oils and essential oils with low flashpoints) can be dangerous when made into a candle. There are also issues with “frosting”, glass adhesion, wax-to-fragrance oil-ratios, the best temperatures to add color, fragrance oil and best temperature to pour. These are just some of the issues. In addition, test-burning and power-burning tests really MUST be conducted before offering to the buying public to make sure they are safe. After all, even if the candle manufacturer has done everything by the book, we are talking about having an open-flame in our homes and some people just can’t seem to concern themselves with reading the warning labels!!!
Voila! I am satisfied with the results of my initial release of candles and wax melts. My goal was to offer candles that can be burned all the way to within 1/2 inch of the bottom of the container and have a really great fragrance throw. I’m excited to see what you all think.
Merry Christmas to everyone. Cheers!
